This is a 5 acre area of land in private ownership but which is in an area of Green belt land.
This means that there are strictly limited uses to which it can be put.
The owner seems to want to dispose of or utilise the land to his commercial advantage which is quite understandable. He has thus had informal conversations with Bolton Council about what might be permitted.
From conversations I have had with residents in the area I find that there is great concern about the possibility that a gypsy or Travellers encampment site might be permitted.
This concern has been further increased as a result of the owner placing the following advertisement in the Travellers' Times.
I thus contacted the Bolton News resulting in this article on 3rd March.

I have also e-mailed the owner expressing my views about the matter in no uncertain terms.
I do not believe this is an appropriate use of this land and furthermore I would fight any proposed application to the bitter end. This piece of land is part of the Canal (Bolton to Bury Canal) and is steeped in wildlife, greenery and part of the green belt and close to residential properties. I do not agree with the idea of building a travellers site and I have made my comments known to officers within the department.
I have invited the owner to meet with myself and residents this Friday tea time to talk this through on the junction of Ascot Road and Newbury Road Little Lever.
This is another situation which I intend to follow through to a satisfactory conclusion for the worried residents. I will post updates on this Blog
