All this rubbish about not wearing the England shirts in pubs during the 2010 World Cup is really doing my head in! We should all be PROUD to support our Country and our National Team.

2 days to go to the protest march against development of the greenbelt and a travellers site

2 days to go to the protest walk from the village centre in Little Lever along Mytham Road, Boscow Road, The canal to the Canal Basin at Church Street/Hall Lane.

Please come and support the campaign and send a clear message to the landowner that any development within the GRENNBELT is not welcome by the community. Anyone good at DIY and has some wood or can sweet talk anyone who has a woodyard to give some wood could you please get in contact so we can make some placards to demonstrate our anger.

Everone welcome on the march young and old,bring your dogs as well it wil be a great show of support and at the same time an oppotunity for us to view the beautiful canal on our doorstep.

Protest March Saturday 22nd May 2010 @ 2pm Starts at Precinct Market Street

I am organising a protest walk on the canal in the next couple of weeks to send a clear message back to the landowner of the canal basin at Little Lever that development is a no no, including a travellers site on this GREENBELT land. Please would you indicate if you would support this and join me and others in a weekend walk with banners

My Post-election message to all my supporters.

May I firstly start off by thanking each and every one of the people who voted for me in the local election on Thursday.

I think the main problem in the campaign was that since a General Election was being held at the same time, people voted on national politics.

It is always difficult to fight the main parties and to pull in over 1,100 votes without any political backing was amazing. If I had my time over again I would have still fought on the same ticket, because I feel passionate about the place I live in and have lived in all my life.

Thank you for the many phone calls, emails, visits to my home and text messages sent to me since the result. Each and every one of them has meant a great deal to me. I will always remember these and the support you gave me.

The last four years have been an honour and a privilege. I've sometimes been a little controversial, sometimes outspoken but I have always put the people of Little Lever and Darcy Lever first.

So to the burning question “what happens next”? That is the question I was asked by the press yesterday and by my Family, Girlfriend, Friends and Residents. Firstly I will pick up my P45 from the Town Hall. Unlike MPs, who get a golden £60,000 payout if they lose or retire, Councillors are paid until the day the election result is announced.

It’s off to find a different kind of job, possibly something within a different local authority with the experience I have gained serving on Bolton Council. The rules prevent me for 12 months from applying for any job at Bolton Council after my coming out of office.

I intend to continue my campaign for the people of the ward I represented because at the moment there are too many issues outstanding.

I promised to help, irrespective of the result, resident’s fight the Greenbelt issue and the threat of a traveller’s site. I also promised to help with the Ground Rent issue on the Racecourse along with Pennine Pets and outstanding and ongoing casework.

Finally may I say congratulations to Cllr Maureen Connell on winning the seat for Little Lever and Darcy Lever as a Labour Councillor. I hope you don’t let the people down.

May I also say thank you to Rees and Alwynne for a clean campaign and Eric for nearly a clean campaign.

It has been an honour and a privilege representing Little Lever and Darcy Lever.

It's the Elections tomorrow

My final and urgent message to you all before the Polling Stations open tomorrow morning.

Tomorrow is an important day for you, it is an important day for me and it is also a very important day for Little Lever and Darcy Lever.

You each have two votes - one in the General Election and one in the Local Election for Ward Councillor - a position I hope I have filled for the last four years with hard work and enterprise in representing your views and trying to solve your problems.

I would not presume how you should vote in the General Election - I'm not 100% certain how I will vote.

The following are my reasons for asking you to vote for me, Sean Hornby, to carry on representing you for the next four years.

1) Being part of Party Group on the Council as I have been for the last four years, has in some cases inhibited me from doing or saying as much as I would have wished. An example of this is the unfair distribution of resources across the Borough.

The party machines in the Council consider that Little Lever and Darcy Lever are like the rich relatives of the Borough. This has resulted in resources being targeted at the so called deprived areas of the town such as Great Lever, Daubhill. Deane and Halliwell.

To criticise this would ensure that the Party Whip would wag a finger and say -'You can't say that'

This 'Cabal' at the Town Hall needs to be challenged and can only be done by an Independent Councillor

As an Independent Councillor I would be able to say and do what I like on your behalf.

If elected - I would be the first Independent Councillor in Bolton for over twenty years.

2) I have worked very hard over four years, not just on the 2000+ items of casework for individual residents but on some of the more difficult larger issues : -

The Decline of the Village Centre -

Provision for the disaffected youth -

Regeneration of grot spots -

Repair and maintenance of roads, footpaths and Council Housing stock.

These are ongoing issues, as are the Travellers Camp, the Racecourse Ground Rents, Pennine Pets, Problems from Crompton Lodges and others.

I have built up a momentum on all of these and that momentum needs to be continued.

3) Of all the Candidates for the Local Election tomorrow, -

I am the one with the Track Record and Experience.

I am the one with Age and Energy on my side.

I am the one who is outspoken about and gets publicity for the issues affecting our Ward.

I am the one whose full time job is representing you.


Please consider voting tomorrow for me, - Sean Hornby, - your Independent Candidate, to ensure a Better Future for Little Lever and Darcy Lever - two places I have known, lived in, worked in and loved all my life.

Victory Road - Re-surfacing

The condition of the road surface of Victory Road was already unacceptable even before the bad weather last winter. However following the extremely cold spell, this, together with some of the other roads within the Borough, had broken up beyond repair.




By good fortune, extra funding was received by Bolton Council as a result of the bad weather - The Severe Weather Allocation.





I along with others successfully pressed for Victory Road resurfacing to be included in the programme of repairs approved by the Executive Member on 1st February 2010.

Bolton Council has acted remarkably quickly and the resurfacing is now complete.

If re elected I will continue the fight to have some of the trees removed whose roots are breaking through the tarmac and are causing problems to pedestrians walking our footpaths. Forward thinking from the then Council would have prevented this problem.
